Dr. Dankai Liu
Jet Propulsion Lab (JPL)/NASA.
Dr. Dankai Liu is a technical member of the Perseverance Rover Sampling and Caching Strategic office (SSO). The Sampling and Caching System is the key technology for capturing the Martian rocks in many small tubes and then bringing them back to Earth by a future Mars Sample Return Mission to analyze further the Mars environment changes.
Before the Perseverance Rover appointment, Dr. Dankai Liu was the Assistant Division Manager for the System Engineering Division.
Dankai served numerous critical positions for JPL’s prestigious and successful space exploration projects, including the Project System Engineer & Flight System Manager of NISAR Project, Project System Engineer and Chief Engineer of OCO-2 Project, Deputy Chief Engineer and Flight System Manager of Mars Science Laboratory, Flight System Manager of GALEX and Avionics Manager of Deep Space One Mission, and the Attitude Control Engineer of Mars Pathfinder Mission.
Among the numerous distinguished recognitions and awards presented to Dankai are the Engineer’s Council Outstanding Engineering Achievement Merit Award, the NASA Exceptional Achievement Medal, JPL Leadership Excellence and Technical Excellence awards, Distinguished Alumni Awards from Tatung University and Texas Tech University, and Distinguished Immigrant Building America award from the American Institute in Taiwan.
